2026 INTAKE

The RUMC Medical Scholarship

The RUMC Medical Scholarship is a selective award recognising academic excellence and professional potential, rather than a broad financial incentive. It is designed to support students who demonstrate not only strong academic capability, but also the personal attributes essential for medical training and future clinical practice.

The scholarship reflects RUMC’s commitment to developing competent, ethical, and patient-centred doctors, and is awarded to candidates who align with the values and standards of the medical profession.

Scholarship Philosophy

The RUMC Medical Scholarship is positioned as a mark of distinction and responsibility, not simply a tuition discount. Through this scholarship, RUMC seeks to:

Attract high-calibre students with strong academic foundations

Recognise professional attributes essential to medical training, including integrity, communication skills, resilience, and professionalism

Support future doctors who demonstrate readiness for the academic and professional demands of the MB BCh BAO programme

Scholarship recipients are expected to uphold RUMC’s values and contribute positively to the University community as ambassadors of the institution.

Selection Framework

Scholarship selection is conducted through a structured two-stage assessment process, ensuring both academic merit and professional readiness are fairly evaluated.

Minimum competency thresholds apply for each scholarship tier. Final scholarship awards are determined based on performance across both academic and interview assessments.

Two-Stage Assessment Process

Applicants are first assessed based on academic performance.

Defined CGPA bands are used to determine a candidate’s potential scholarship tier (High Distinction, Merit, or Performance).

Candidates who meet the academic eligibility criteria are required to attend a mandatory structured interview.

During the interview, applicants are assessed on professional competencies aligned with medical training, including:

  • Communication skills
  • Professionalism and ethical awareness
  • Motivation and commitment to medicine
  • Personal attributes relevant to clinical practice

Minimum competency thresholds apply for each scholarship tier. Final scholarship awards are determined based on performance across both academic and interview assessments.

Scholarship Disbursement

The scholarship value is distributed equally across the duration of the programme, corresponding to:

2.5 Years

of study in Ireland

2.5 Years

of study in Malaysia

Continuation of the scholarship is subject to the recipient maintaining satisfactory academic progress and meeting ongoing programme and scholarship requirements.

Key Notes

  • The RUMC Medical Scholarship is highly selective and awarded on a competitive basis.
